Peter Obi remains leading candidate for Nigerian President in fresh poll

A recent poll conducted by Bloomberg News and Premise Data Corp places Peter Obi, a candidate from the Labour Party (LP), as the leading presidential candidate in the upcoming election.

The survey found that 66% of the 2,384 respondents who had decided on their vote intend to cast it for Obi, surpassing Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The results of the poll, which was conducted via smartphone app from January 26th to February 4th, were weighted to ensure national representation.

This is not the first time that a poll has placed Obi in the lead. A similar survey conducted by Bloomberg in September, which surveyed 3,973 Nigerians, also found that 72% of those who had made up their minds named Obi as their first choice.

Despite these polls, opponents including the APC, PDP, and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have dismissed Obi’s chances in the election, labeling him as a “social media candidate”.

Nevertheless, he has a significant following among young people who are disenchanted with the current political system.
