The House of Representatives Committee on Finance has proposed exempting military personnel from personal income tax, in a move aimed at recognizing the sacrifices of personnel of Nigeria’s armed forces,
The committee’s chairman, Hon. Abiodun Faleke, made the announcement on Thursday during a clause-by-clause review of four tax bills transmitted to the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu in October 2024.
Explaining the rationale behind the proposal, Faleke emphasized the critical and demanding nature of military service, arguing that tax relief would serve as a form of financial support and recognition for the armed forces.
