Afrobeats star Rema recently addressed a misrepresentation of his words by Album Talks regarding his stance on Nigerian artists repping their roots. In a tweet, Album Talks quoted Rema’s interview with Dazed, suggesting that he implied many Afrobeats stars were failing to represent their heritage.
However, Rema clarified that his statement was specifically about being one of the few mainstream artists from Benin City, Nigeria, and not a general critique of the industry. He had quoted the tweet saying, “In context of being one of the very few mainstream Artists from Benin. Stop the ????”.
