Victor Osimhen’s stunning header against Besiktas shatters Galatasaray record set by ex-Lyon star

Victor Osimhen has quickly made a mark at Galatasaray, breaking a long-standing record held by former Lyon striker Bafétimbi Gomis with his recent header against Besiktas, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen’s journey to Istanbul was a turbulent one, marked by his fallout with Napoli’s management, which led to his transfer to Galatasaray after a failed move to Al Ahli.

Yet, since joining the Turkish side, Osimhen has shown exceptional form, demonstrating why his transfer was one of the most talked-about moves of the summer.

The Nigerian forward made an immediate impact for Galatasaray, beginning his Turkish Super League campaign with an assist against Rizespor.

He then set up another goal in the high-stakes Fenerbahce derby before scoring twice in the match against Kasimpasa.

Osimhen continued his impressive streak with goals in the Antalya and Besiktas derbies.

The 25-year-old’s stunning header against Besiktas makes him the first Galatasaray player since Gomis in the 2014-15 season to contribute to six goal involvements (four goals, two assists) in his first five league games, as per Hurriyet.

Osimhen has quickly become a fan favourite, not only for his on-field skill but also his dedication to the team.

After his goal against Besiktas, Osimhen addressed rumours of a possible mid-season departure, affirming his commitment to the club by saying, “I will be here in the second half.”

With Osimhen’s contribution, Galatasaray currently lead the Turkish Super League by six points, with Samsunspor trailing in second place.
