Arrivals from China to be banned by Morocco over COVID

The Moroccan foreign ministry announced on Saturday that, starting on January 3, all Chinese nationals will be barred from entering Morocco in order to prevent a second wave of coronavirus infections.

Due to an increase in COVID-19 cases, travelers from China have been subject to restrictions in a number of countries.

Every year, thousands of Chinese tourists flock to Morocco on flights that typically take them through the Gulf.

China began dismantling the world’s most stringent COVID regime of lockdowns and extensive testing this month in a sudden policy shift, setting its battered economy on track for a complete reopening next year.

However, according to some international health experts, the lifting of restrictions has allowed COVID to spread largely unchecked and is likely affecting millions of people every day.
