As the greatest producer of crude oil in Africa, Nigeria’s state administration and economy are dysfunctional, which is reflected in the country’s prolonged gasoline shortages, particularly around the holidays.
However, this is nothing new, as there have consistently been gasoline shortages for over three decades. About four months ago, scarcity returned, defying all reason and remedies.
The government and its agencies are clueless, making disconnected statements and uncoordinated moves. Laughably, the latest was the directive by the State Security Service to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria, Depot and Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria and other stakeholders to resolve the current fuel crisis in 48 hours!
