The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) says 70 per cent of inmates across the custodial centres in Kano State are awaiting trial.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Command of the service, Musbahu Lawan, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the state headquarters of the agency on Monday in Kano.
He said that overcrowding was a challenge to the smooth operation of the NCoS in the state, as the number of awaiting trial inmates had tripled that of convicted inmates in the state.
