Lagos State to Demolish Parts of Landmark for Lagos-Calabar Highway Project

The Lagos State government has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the CEO of Landmark Group, Paul Onwuanibe, to evacuate the Landmark Beach resort. The reason for this evacuation is to make way for the construction of the Lagos – Calabar coastal road.

According to the press release dated April 4th, 2024, he is currently in talks with the government to re-route the project to its original path to preserve the hospitality and tourism businesses along the coastal right of way.

“I wish to confirm that we are in active talks with various arms of the federal and state government including the Lagos State Government, the Federal and State Ministries of Tourism, and the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing as well as several interest groups and have received firm assurances that there will be no disruptions to business while we work to agree win-win solutions including rerouting the first 1.5 km out of the 700km stretch of the Road to its original location along the undeveloped Water Corporation Road median.”

The CEO revealed he acquired Landmark Beachfront Realty along the Water Corporation Road in 2007 and at the time, the original construction plan for the Lagos – Calabar coastal road was not drawn up.

Landmark serves as a popular destination for both locals and tourists, with approximately 3 million visitors annually, many of whom are tourists from diaspora.

It also directly employs over 4000 Nigerians across its various businesses and indirectly employs an additional 12,000 individuals through its supply chain.e commended the Lagos State government for the project, expressing hope that both parties will reach a common ground.”
