To celebrate the welfare of children, Ikeja Unique Lions Club commemorate children as they pay homage at the Heritage Orphanage home, Anthony village, Lagos state. Donations such as foodstuffs and toiletries were give to the home. According to the members of Ikeja Unique Lions Club, the donations is to facilitate an ongoing monitoring and support of children in the home.
Speaking at the event is the president of Ikeja Unique Lions Club, Lion Stephen Onojomete, who commented on the importance of sharing love to the children.
“Children are gift from God, they are supposed to be cherished, so we from the Lions Club decided to visit the Heritage Orphanage Home to share some love with the children by donating some gift items to them. Children who are abandoned or orphaned need support from the society, it’s a pity some people don’t look into that.’
“We should understand that for some of these children to find their way into homes, shows they may have been abused in one way or the other which is not right. Many of these children have emotional stories to share and for this we need to give them hope and support. This are one of the reasons we appreciate homes such as these, because the homes help these children feel safe and secure.”
Also speaking is Lion Gbenga Akinrinade from Lagos Alliance Lions Club. He said: “one of the core duties of a lion is to show care and support for those who are in need and that is exactly what we are doing here with the children of Heritage Orphanage Home. These children are in need of love and care. At the moment we all know the country is not friendly, many are looking at how to make ends meet and forget about these children. We are here to tell them that they are not forgotten and that we love them. So we are using this opportunity to reach out to people out there that they can show love and support to these children by just visiting them once in a while. You don’t need to have a lot to show that you care. Having fun and being there for them is most important.”
The chairperson of the event, lion Matthew Obasohan wasn’t left out as he appreciated everyone who witnessed the event, ” I appreciate everyone who witnessed this event especially the children from Heritage Orphanage Home, I want to use this opportunity to appreciate them for being co-operative towards our cause.’
“Children as we all know should be appreciated no matter the circumstances their parents find themselves. Having children is not easy as they are our responsibility. There are basic needs they need such as education, nutrition, medical and several others. So for anyone to bring forth a child into this world should be prepared for all these.’
He further stated: “Unfortunately knowing the situation in the country many are frustrated and can’t provide for their children, this is where we from Lions Club step in to show love and assistance to these children. We want them to know that no matter the circumstances in the country we will try our best to give and support them no matter how little we can from time to time.”
To concluded the event, the senior supervisor of the home, Oluwatosin Popoola also appreciated the club for their kind donations. According to her the items will go a long way for them.
