Omotayo who was at the book unveiling with her daughter, Sarai, said she was inspired to write the book, to inculcate into her, her roots and originality as early as possible. The celebrity enthused that her daughter’s search for her true origin having hailed from two different cultures, spurred her to write this book to aid her and other children to discover their cultural heritage. “My daughter has a mixed parental cultural heritage. Therefore, I wrote this book to let her know her originality and be proud of it” , she explained.
Sarai’s Culture Day is a warm and uplifting book that is the perfect springboard to teach children the importance of embracing their culture and heritage. Sarai’s Culture Day was excellently written by Omotayo, the versatile model turned author. She is also a fashion designer and entrepreneur. The very attractive colourful book was illustrated by Chike Obasi, who is the art director of Kunda Kids.
Dele Olafuyi, the CEO of Kunda Kids that published the book, said that “the aim of this book is to encourage children to embrace their culture, which positively impacts how they see themselves and embrace others too. For example, ‘Sarai’s Culture Day’ shows parents and teachers how to do this by connecting through cultural items such as music, fashion, food and history. It also touches on soft critical skills such as kindness, advocacy, self-acceptance and anti-bullying”.
