Birmingham Sack Rooney

Birmingham City have terminated the contract of head coach Wayne Rooney after a disappointing run in the Championship.

Rooney’s tenure saw a decline in performance, winning only two out of 15 matches and dropping the team from sixth to 20th in the league standings. An official announcement regarding his departure is expected soon.

Rooney took charge when Birmingham was in a promising position for promotion, but a series of poor results, including nine league defeats, has left the team precariously close to the relegation zone, currently just two spots above it.

His predecessor, John Eustace, was also dismissed despite a strong start to the season, as the new ownership aimed for a more competitive mindset and ambitious culture within the club.

Previously, Rooney had an unsuccessful stint managing Derby County, unable to prevent their relegation to League One amidst financial and administrative challenges. Similarly, his tenure at D.C. United in MLS ended after the team failed to qualify for the playoffs.
