The popular Nigerian forum, Nairaland, has been taken offline in a dramatic twist, leaving its millions of users in the lurch. Founder Seun Osewa took to Twitter to reveal a humbling tale of human error and the platform’s precarious dependence on the goodwill of internet giants.
It all began with a missed report. Osewa confessed to overlooking an abuse complaint filed on February 14th. Realizing his mistake, he promptly removed the offending content. However, the damage was already done. Nairaland’s web host, Cloudflare, took swift action, pulling the plug on the entire forum as a penalty for the delayed response.

The technicalities that followed only compounded the frustration. The UI for restoring the server malfunctioned, delaying the process for hours. Once back online, a second blow came – Cloudflare took the forum down again, this time without warning.
Osewa, now pleading his case, believes cached versions of the offensive content might be triggering Cloudflare’s filters. He has cleared his own caches but awaits communication from the tech giant, hoping for a human review and a reversal of the block.
“It’s really a small issue that should have been resolved in less than 2 minutes,” Osewa lamented in his Twitter thread. He acknowledged his “abysmal” track record in dealing with abuse reports and even solicited user suggestions for better handling such situations in the future.
