Why Fenerbahce’s Osayi-Samuel could not achieve EPL ambition this summer

Bright Osayi-Samuel recently piqued the interest of Brentford FC and AFC Bournemouth, who were vying for signature during the January transfer window

Super Eagles and Fenerbahce defender, Bright Osayi-Samuel, previously attracted attention from several English Premier League clubs due to his stellar performances, Soccernet.ng reports.

In a previous interview with Soccernet.ng, the Super Eagles wingback expressed his desire to return to the Premier League, especially amidst interests from clubs during the January window.

Despite interest during the winter transfer window, Osayi-Samuel’s move to AFC Bournemouth fell through as the club couldn’t match the €12 million valuation set for the Nigerian by his current club.

A similar situation arose with Brentford FC, who offered the same amount but couldn’t finalize the deal for undisclosed reasons.

Why did the anticipated summer move fail for Osayi-Samuel?

Sources close to Soccernet.ng indicated that while the Nigerian desired a return to England, his manager prevented any chances of the move, emphasizing that he couldn’t sanction the transfer.

Adding complexity to the situation, Fenerbahce, with just a year left on Osayi-Samuel’s contract, is deliberating on securing his services for the long term.

Reports from Aksam suggest the club intends to extend his contract and raise his salary to strengthen their position in potential transfer negotiations.

This stance implies Osayi-Samuel may remain at Fenerbahce for the foreseeable future, unless he pushes for a transfer in the upcoming window to avoid leaving on a free transfer should he not sign a new contract.

Despite the transfer saga, Osayi-Samuel has been a pivotal player for Fenerbahce this season, featuring in 18 matches, starting 17, and contributing with two goals and three assists.
