The Labour Party has expressed confidence that the Supreme Court judgment on the presidential election petition, scheduled for delivery on Thursday, will be in its favour.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the party’s national legal officer, Kehinde Edun, disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday.
He said the party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, would be declared the winner of the election.
“We are expecting victory because that is what justice demands; that is what Nigerians want. We will not lose hope. We have presented our case before the court,” Edun said.
“We are confident of victory for the Labour Party and Nigerians. We know that there will be jubilation everywhere in Nigeria,” he added.
Edun’s statement comes against the backdrop of the Supreme Court’s decision to fix tomorrow for the delivery of judgment in the two appeals filed by Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Obi, challenging the declaration of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the presidential election.
In their appeals, Atiku and Obi are alleging widespread electoral fraud and certificate forgery by Tinubu and are praying the court to nullify his victory and declare them the winner of the election.
The Supreme Court is the highest court in the country, and its decision on the presidential election petition will be final.
