Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun announced on Thursday that the state has approved the full-time employment of 1,000 Ogun Teach members who have completed their two-year probation period and proven themselves to be worthy teachers. This move is aimed at increasing the teaching workforce and improving teaching and learning in the state.
The governor made the announcement during the 2023 Teachers’ Day Celebration held at the Obas Complex in Abeokuta. World Teachers’ Day is celebrated globally on October 5th to recognize and celebrate the important role that teachers play in society.
Governor Abiodun also assured the state of more reforms in the education system. He said that in order to address the impact of retiring teachers and improve the teacher-student ratio, the state government will be engaging an additional 2,000 interns. This is in addition to the 2,000 interns already employed.
The governor also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the leadership and members of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), the Association of Primary School Head-teachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), and the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) for their unwavering commitment to serving the children of the state over the years.
Governor Abiodun praised teachers for their role in shaping society. He said that the future of children depends solely on the level and quality of education they receive, and therefore it is important for everyone to work together to transform the education sector and ensure academic excellence for all children.
The governor also assured teachers that the government is committed to improving their welfare and well-being. In turn, he expects teachers to contribute fully to the growth and development of the education sector, as it is through collective efforts that a bright future can be built.
