Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan signed a landmark agreement on Monday to lift the visa ban on Nigerian travelers and boost investment between the two countries.
The agreement, which was reached during Tinubu’s visit to Abu Dhabi, also includes a commitment by the UAE to invest billions of dollars in Nigeria’s economy.
“This is a major breakthrough for our two countries,” Tinubu said in a statement. “It will boost trade and investment, create jobs, and strengthen our relationship.”
Under the terms of the agreement, the UAE will immediately lift the visa ban on Nigerian travelers. Both Etihad Airlines and Emirates Airlines will also immediately resume flight schedules into and out of Nigeria.
The agreement also includes a framework for billions of dollars in new investments from the UAE into the Nigerian economy. The UAE has committed to investing in multiple sectors, including defense, agriculture, and infrastructure.
The agreement is a major victory for Tinubu, who has been working to improve relations between Nigeria and the UAE since he became president in 2023. It is also a sign of the strong economic ties between the two countries.
