The World Athletics Championship has ended and was declared closed by the Athletics President, Sabastine Coe. The World Athletics flag has been handed over to athletes of Japan by those of Hungary, indicating that the 2025 World Athletics Championship will be hosted by Japan. Notable sports dignitaries like the IOC president and the Nigerian father of sports, Engr. Habu Gumel, were among the invited guests that observed the championship.
Nigerian athletes’ performance during the games was not as pleasant as expected, as the world clearly saw non professionalism notably in the exchange of baton by the 4x400m women relay team. Even if there is still hope and assurance that classical athletes can subsequently be produced and developed, the AFN should be called to order for featuring some athletes this time that are far below world standard in an event that has credibility.
