The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, attended the wedding Fatiha of Amir, the son of Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, in Kano on Friday.
The wedding ceremony was graced by many high-profile personalities, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.
In his remarks after the event, Akpabio described Obi’s presence as a sign of a united Nigeria. He said that the fact that Obi, a presidential candidate from a different political party, was willing to attend the wedding of a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) shows that Nigeria is still a country where people of different political beliefs can come together in peace and harmony.
“This is a sign of a united Nigeria,” Akpabio said. “It shows that we are one people, regardless of our political affiliations. I am glad that Peter Obi was here today to celebrate with us.”
Obi himself said that he was happy to be part of the wedding ceremony. He said that he wished Amir and his bride a happy and prosperous life together.
“I am glad to be here today to celebrate with Amir and his bride,” Obi said. “I wish them a happy and prosperous life together. I also want to thank Senator Barau Jibrin for inviting me to this event. It is a sign of unity and brotherhood.”
The wedding Fatiha was held at the Isyaka Rabiu Juma’at Mosque in Goron Dutse, Kano State. Amir married Bilkisu Aliyu Sani Madaki, the daughter of the Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Aliyu Sani Madaki.
