Why there’s gross rights violation in S/East- Stakeholders

Stakeholders have called for the overhaul of security architecture in Nigeria’s Southeast region just as they blamed gross violations of human rights in the region on the dysfunctional security infrastructure.

The call was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a one-day police/stakeholders dialogue on security and justice in the Southeast, organised by the Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) with support from Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA), held in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
At the dialogue titled “Tackling the root causes of insecurity and injustice”, the stakeholders also called on the police authorities to restore trust between the force and society and ensure that police officers act in accordance with the law and professional standards, treat citizens with dignity and invite public support and partnership.
