CPI Rebasing Won’t Have Any Impact On Nigeria’s Economy, Say Experts

Economists and financial experts have called on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to pause interest rate hikes following the rebasing of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), which saw Nigeria’s headline inflation rate decline to 24.48 per cent year-on-year in January 2025.

The report highlights a decline in the general price level of goods and services, dropping from 34.80 per cent in December 2024, a figure calculated using the previous methodology to 24.48 per cent in January 2025 following the rebasing of the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
