Senator Emma Nwaka, a former chairman of the Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) six months after he resigned from the PDP.
Nwaka, who represented Abia North at the National Assembly during the botched 3rd Republic, ran for the PDP governorship ticket in the 2023 general election.
The 2010 to 2015 PDP helmsman’s joining of the APC came after many notable former members, including the former Speaker of the House of Assembly, Chinedum Orji, joined the latter.
Nwaka’s defection was made public following a viral photograph in which he was presented with the APC party card by the APC chairman for Oguduasa Ward 5, Sampson Achi Ndukwe.
The photograph also captures Udochi Okorie, the APC chairman for the Isuikwuato local government area, and other party officials.
LEADERSHIP’s effort to reach Nwaka, a legal practitioner, to confirm the report at press time failed as it was authoritatively confirmed by one of his close confidants that “he is now a broom carrier.”
According to the confirmation source, an aide to Nwaka, “the photograph was not AI-generated. At the right time, the Senator will speak his mind to the public on this momentous political journey.”
