France Detects First Case Of New Mpox Variant in Brittany

The new variant, originating from Central Africa, has been classified as a global health emergency by the World Health Organisation (WHO) since August. While the woman had no travel history to Central Africa, she had been in contact with two individuals who had recently returned from the region, AFP reported.

French health authorities have launched an investigation to identify the source of the infection and are actively tracing all potential contacts to prevent further spread. This is part of a broader effort to contain the outbreak of this more virulent strain of mpox, which has drawn global attention in recent months.
