SERAP Demands Accountability from NNPCL Over Missing Funds

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has asked the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to account for N825 billion and $2.5 billion allegedly allocated for refinery repairs and oil revenues but remain unaccounted for.

Citing a 2021 Auditor-General report, SERAP highlighted financial discrepancies, including deductions for refinery repairs, pipeline maintenance, and oil royalties, totaling over N1 trillion.

SERAP called for investigations by anti-corruption agencies and warned of legal action if transparency isn’t ensured within seven days.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo rejected an invitation by NNPCL to inspect refineries, calling it “disrespectful.”

SERAP emphasized the need for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to oversee refinery operations and recover missing funds.
