NCC Pledges to Build on 2024 Milestones in 2025

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has committed to enhancing its achievements from 2024 as it moves into the new year.

This assurance was given by the Commission’s Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice Chairman (CEO/EVC), Aminu Maida.

Speaking on the Commission’s plans for 2025, Maida revealed that the NCC would introduce coverage maps derived from crowd-sourced data to showcase the performance of Mobile Network Operators (MNOs).

The goal, he explained, is to enable mobile network users to identify the most efficient operators in their area, fostering informed decision-making.

The announcement was shared through a series of tweets from Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, on Thursday.

Maida emphasized the NCC’s commitment to promoting transparency and healthy competition within the telecoms industry.

“We’re optimistic about 2025. We will build on the progress made in 2024. With some foundational steps already in place, we plan to enhance transparency to drive competition and improve service delivery among operators,” he stated.

Highlighting the importance of the new coverage maps, Maida added: “By the end of the year, users will no longer need to rely on anecdotal evidence to determine the best network in their area. Actual performance data, sourced directly from user experiences, will be available on the NCC’s website for public access.”

Among the NCC’s significant achievements in 2024 were the successful implementation of the Federal Government’s NIN-SIM linkage policy and the designation of its infrastructure as Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) through a Presidential Order issued on November 6.

With these advancements as a foundation, the NCC aims to further elevate the quality and accessibility of telecommunications services across Nigeria in 2025.
