Tension rises as Benin Republic rejects terrorism allegations, summons Nigerien diplomat

The Benin Republic has formally summoned a Nigerien diplomat to address accusations made by Niger’s junta leader, Abdourahamane Tchiani, alleging that Benin is supporting terrorist activities in West Africa.

Benin’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a strong protest against the claims, describing them as baseless and inflammatory.

In a statement released on Tuesday via its official X account, Foreign Minister Olushegun Bakari confirmed that Niger’s chargé d’affaires had been summoned to clarify the allegations.
