PDP Urges Tinubu to Address Insecurity, Others in 2025

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate and decisive action to tackle the pressing issues of insecurity, fuel shortages, and widespread hunger as the nation begins 2025.

In a statement released on Tuesday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba criticized the Tinubu administration’s performance over the past 18 months, accusing it of focusing on rhetoric and unsubstantiated promises instead of implementing tangible solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.

“The Peoples Democratic Party congratulates Nigerians on the dawn of the year 2025 and calls on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to avoid starting the year with empty addresses,” the statement said.

“The president must outline and implement clear strategies to reduce fuel prices, address widespread hunger, and ensure the security of lives and property.”

The PDP alleged that Tinubu’s previous speeches lacked concrete measures to improve the economy, create jobs, ensure credible elections, or raise living standards. Instead, the party claimed, his administration has been marked by “corruption, wasteful spending, and insensitivity to the plight of ordinary Nigerians.”

The PDP also urged the president to account for the billions of naira reportedly saved from the removal of fuel subsidies.

“President Tinubu must fulfill his public commitment to fight corruption by investigating and recovering the over N25 trillion reportedly stolen by APC leaders and government officials,” the statement read.

The opposition party accused the government of turning public agencies into cash machines for personal enrichment while neglecting the needs of ordinary Nigerians.

Highlighting the need for justice, the PDP criticized the government’s failure to address state-backed violence, including the 2020 #EndSARS protests and alleged killings of youths.

The statement described the past 18 months as one of the most challenging periods for Nigerians since the Civil War, with many citizens resorting to desperate measures like suicide and illegal migration.“

The anti-people policies of this administration have inflicted unbearable hardship on Nigerians,” the party stated, adding that the government’s lack of responsiveness has deepened public frustration.

The PDP warned the APC government against continuing these policies into the new year, saying it would further alienate Nigerians and worsen their suffering.

Despite these challenges, the party encouraged citizens to remain hopeful, law-abiding, and committed to defending democracy, transparency, and accountability in governance.

The PDP’s statement concluded with a call for President Tinubu to adopt a more empathetic and action-oriented approach to address the country’s critical issues in 2025.
