Woman sets her police husband ablaze in Ogun

A woman identified as Sarah Ayinde, is on the run after allegedly setting her husband, Abidemi Ayinde, a special constable with the Ogun State Police Command, on fire. The incident occurred on December 12, 2024, in the Iperu area of Ogun State, following a domestic dispute between the couple.

Sources say that the argument between the two quickly escalated, with Sarah resorting to setting her husband ablaze in what appeared to be an act of retaliation. The suspect’s husband, Abidemi sustained severe burns and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that it took place at around 10:00 a.m. on December 12 at their residence on Igboore Street, Iperu. According to Odutola, Abidemi was quickly transferred to Bolawatife Hospital for medical care. The suspect, Ayinde, fled the scene immediately after the attack and remains at large.

The police are actively searching for her, and investigations into the incident are ongoing, with the crime division taking charge of the case. “The suspect, Sarah Ayinde, remains at large, and efforts are underway to apprehend her. The division’s crime branch is conducting further investigations into the matter,” Odutola added.

This incident brings to light another case of domestic violence involving police officers, reminding the public of similar tragedies, such as a 2019 case where a policeman in Lagos killed his wife before taking his own life. The ongoing investigation aims to shed light on the causes of these violent acts within police families.
