Chris Ihidero Unveils New Series ‘Journey To Bloom’

For years, Chris Ihidero, has demonstrated his commitment to highlighting societal issues through his films. From short films like Big Daddy that focused on the dangers of sexual abuse to directing films such as It Happened To Me aimed at raising awareness and correcting misconceptions about HIV/AIDS in Nigeria.

Ihidiero has consistently told important stories. His latest offering, Journey to the Bloom, is another testament to his expertise.

The eight-part series centres around the lives of two girls as they navigate their teenage years at Blooming Hearts Secondary School. With themes exploring financial inclusion, sexual reproductive health, and empowerment, Journey To The Bloom promises to be both educational and entertaining as these teenagers tackle real-life issues in each episode.

Under the Sky Girls flagship, an initiative sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Chris Ihidero, as producer of the limited series, took on the project to further showcase the multifaceted nature of the average teenager. With each episode telling a tale and following the lives of these young individuals, Chris hopes to share their unfiltered stories while highlighting the challenges faced by the average Nigerian teenager.

Featuring a range of talented young actors including Ayomide Boluwatife (Tife), Judith Ushi (Naima), Isoken Aruede (Jibs), Wonuola Lanre Akinremi (Yomi), Nadia Dutch (Bibi), and Samson Imanah (Kunle), Chris mentioned that the casting was done with a strong focus on storytelling while also providing opportunities for young talent.

This is not the first time Chris has shown his dedication to supporting young talents. Through his masterclass Story Story, he has consistently provided guidance and mentorship to aspiring young storytellers.

With over 100 hours of television drama direction under his belt, he has won numerous awards, including the “Special Jury Award” and “Best Editing Award” at the 2012 In-Short International Film Festival. He has also worked on projects such as MNet’s television drama Hush, MTV Shuga, Man Pikin, Fuji House of Commotion, and many more.
