North Shouldn’t Benefit from Where It Didn’t Sow – Imirhobo Backs Tinubu Tax Reform Bills

A popular Nigerian lawyer, Malcolm Omirhobo, has thrown his weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bill.

Omirhobo’s endorsement comes amidst controversy surrounding the bill, which has been met with resistance from Northern governors and the National Economic Council (NEC).

In a statement on social media released on Friday night, Omirhobo said the bill will prevent the North from reaping benefits without contributing to the country’s revenue.

“I support the tax reform bill because it will correct tax distribution inequalities. The North has been robbing and raping the South for decades; it has to stop.

“If we sincerely want to return to the regional government and want this country to make progress, tax reform is sine qua non.

“Every state must bring something to the table; the North cannot continue to reap where it did not sow,” he said.

The Tax Reform Bill was submitted by the Presidency to the National Assembly in October 2024.
