The Defence Headquarters has strongly denied reports claiming that terrorists have taken control of a military training area in the Kotangora Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to the Defence Headquarters, the reports—which originated from discussions within the Niger State House of Assembly—misrepresent the actual security situation in the area.
In a press release signed by Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the Defence Headquarters emphasized that while troops have encountered terrorist elements in the area, no section of the military training grounds has been ceded to any terrorist groups. “Our troops consistently eliminate the threat posed by terrorists moving across the vast terrain. Our clearance operations are actively disrupting the terrorists’ movements and denying them freedom of action,” stated the release.
The military further clarified that ongoing operations in Niger State specifically target terrorist groups. According to the statement, any suggestion that the armed forces are failing in their duty or that these threats should be described otherwise is inaccurate.
Major General Buba also assured the public that the military is working closely with the Niger State Government to enhance security throughout the region. “Our troops are relentless in pursuing and neutralizing these terrorist elements wherever they may be hiding,” he added.
This clarification from the Defence Headquarters aims to reassure citizens of the ongoing efforts to safeguard the area and reinforce that reports of a takeover are unfounded.
