SOS Children’s Villages has condemned the brutal use of corporal punishment that led to the death of a student in Ogun State.

Master Monday Arijo, an SS2 student of Obada Grammar School, Obada, Idi-emi, was said to have lost his life after he was brutally flogged by his teacher

The organisation, in a statement signed by it’s Head of Brand and Communication, Nigerian Rhoda Daniel Ocheche, said the death of young Arijo underscores the alarming reality of violence against children in Nigeria, saying such acts are an unequivocal aberration that undermines societal values and legal obligations to protect and nurture the youth.

She pointed out that the incident highlights the urgent need to enforce the Child Rights Act, which opposes all forms of violence against children and mandates protection of their rights and well-being.
