Kano LG Polls Lack Democratic Process — PDP

The Kano State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized the Saturday, October 26, 2024 local government elections in the state, describing it as totally lacking all democratic processes.

PDP stated this on Monday through its new chairman, Yusuf Kibiya, at the maiden press conference after his election as chairman of the party in Kano State.

Kibiya explained that the local government elections were completely truncated and was not free and fair.

“Everyone saw what happened in the name of local government elections in the state. Democratic process was completely truncated and it was not free and fair.

“There was no democracy, there was complete absence of democratic process, that was why we shunned the election because it lacked integrity,” he stated.

Earlier in his speech, the new PDP chairman who appreciated the party leaders and delegates for his emergence on October 12, 2024 as the PDP chairman in the state, promised to address the problems being faced by the party.

He disclosed his vision for the party to include enhancing democracy, producing credible leaders and rolling out a ten-year development programme.

Kibiya also pledged to address issues in the party and resolve leadership crises, deepen institutional relationship, as well as social educational, religious, economic issues affecting the state, and to also maintaining standard.

“I invite all citizens-party members and non-party members alike to join us in this notable crusade. Together we can build a brighter future for our state. Your ideas, participation, and advocacy are essential as we strive for excellence and true service to our people.

“Let us work hand-in-hand to create a government that is responsive, transparent, and accountable. The time for change is now, and together we will succeed. Success can only be achieved if we work together and re-enforced one another,” he concluded.
