Benue: Labour Party Candidate Calls For Cancellation Of Ogbadibo LG Polls

The Labour Party candidate in the just-concluded local government election in Ogbadibo, Benue State, has called for the immediate cancellation of the election due to the complete absence of electoral proceedings across the local government area.

Enenche claimed that on election day, his team were present at his polling unit in Adupi Orokam Ward 1, but there was no electoral official on ground to conduct the election.

He added that reports from his agents in various polling units across Owukpa, Orokam, and Otukpa confirmed that no election took place in any part of Ogbadibo local government.

In a statement yesterday, Enenche described the events of Saturday as not just an injustice to the people of Ogbadibo but an insult to the Nigerian democratic process as a whole.

“This unfortunate situation has been corroborated by the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, who, in an earlier statement, described the exercise as a charade.

“What happened on Saturday was a mockery of democracy, a disgraceful mess that has left the people of Ogbadibo disenfranchised and disillusioned.

“In light of these facts, we are demanding the immediate cancellation of this sham election and the organization of a fresh, credible election where the people of Ogbadibo can freely exercise their right to vote.

“We call on Governor Hyacinth Alia, as a man of integrity and a Catholic father, to uphold the values of fairness and justice by ensuring that this election is annulled.

“It is his duty to prove to the people of Benue State that he stands for democracy and good governance by taking the necessary steps to cancel the flawed process and facilitate a new election that reflects the will of the people,” Enenche said.
