Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State addressed the newly inaugurated local government chairmen on Monday, emphasizing that the recent autonomy granted to local governments does not equate to independence from the state government.
During the inauguration of the thirty-one chairmen, Eno cautioned against misinterpreting the concept of autonomy. He asserted that “there’s no autonomy in governance” and highlighted that no government branch can function in isolation.
“Each of you is now autonomous in your financial dealings, which means you will receive your funds directly,” he explained. “But remember, we have shared responsibilities, and those shared responsibilities must be carefully thought out.”
