The Finidi George effect? Super Eagles defender seals transfer to English club

Super Eagles defender Benjamin Tanimu has completed a transfer from Tanzanian side Singida Black Stars to English League One club Crawley Town, Soccernet.ng reports.

Tanimu broke into the scene this year after former Super Eagles coach Finidi George gave him his maiden call-up to the national team. The call-up was quite surprising at the time as he had never featured for Nigeria and was attached to Tanzanian side Singida Black Stars.

He featured in the games against Benin and South Africa and was quite decent despite the fact that he was played out of position.

However, he did not make the national team call-up for Nigeria’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.

In a new development on Friday, per Mike the pundit, Crawley Town have sealed the signing of Tanimu from Singida Black Stars in a three-year deal. The club is expected to unveil the 22-year-old defender in the coming hours.

It will be Tanimu’s first taste of football outside the shores of Africa. Before Singida Black Stars, he played in the Nigeria Premier Football League for Bendel Insurance.

Crawley Town just gained promotion to League One and currently sit eighth in the league.
