Boeing MOU: Nigeria’s Aviation Advancement Crucial For Africa’s Progress, Says Travel Expert Mendiratta

Renowned global travel consultant and adviser, Anita Mendiratta, has stated that the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Boeing and Nigeria is the key to unlocking Africa’s aviation potential.

In an interview with ARISE NEWS on Saturday, Mendiratta emphasised the significance of the partnership in advancing aviation across the continent.

“This news is excellent for Nigeria and Africa,” Mendiratta stated. “Aviation in Africa represents $63 billion in revenue and supports over 8 million jobs. As a key hub for the continent, Nigeria’s advancement in aviation is crucial for Africa’s overall progress.”

She further emphasised that “Boeing is the right partner. Africa has huge potential and this MOU is a significant starting point to unlock that potential.”

Mendiratta highlighted Boeing’s extensive role in the global aviation industry, noting, “Boeing is a major player with four out of ten commercial aircraft worldwide being Boeing’s, and seven out of ten in Africa. Over 22 countries rely on Boeing for more than 1,500 aircraft around the continent.

“Boeing understands Africa and the work it is going to do in Nigeria in terms of strengthening the ecosystem… So airports, airlines, air-traffic control, capacity building, managing supply chains and security, have been done with other countries like the US, Saudi Arabia, India…”

Addressing concerns about Boeing’s past performance, Mendiratta reassured that although Boeing has faced challenges, it has also achieved significant successes.

She further reiterated that, “Boeing understands Africa’s needs and is well-positioned to contribute to Nigeria’s aviation sector. This partnership will bring excellence to aviation for Nigeria and Africa as a whole. The MOU is expected to foster strategic growth within Africa.”

Mendiratta elaborated, “Africa’s rapid recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic is partly due to its focus on intra-continental travel. The re-establishment and development of new routes within Africa are vital. The leadership at Boeing is committed to ensuring that this partnership enhances not just international aviation but also regional connectivity.”

On safety, she asserted that “Boeing is taking safety concerns very seriously.”

She concluded, “this MOU represents a partnership with ongoing dialogue aimed at advancing the industry. Developing a culture of safety, excellence, and pride in aviation is essential, and this MOU is a step towards making this partnership work.”
