Former Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi has revealed that he and Didier Drogba have been making efforts to convince Victor Osimhen to leave Napoli for Chelsea, Soccernet.ng reports.
Osimhen’s next destination has been one of the biggest discussions in the summer transfer market. The Nigerian striker has been talismanic for Napoli in the past three seasons, and that has attracted some of the top clubs in Europe.
Last summer, the 25-year-old striker was linked with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG, Chelsea, and other Premier League sides. However, Napoli refused to sell and got the Super Eagles star to sign a contract extension.
But this summer, Osimhen looks set to leave Naples. As it stands, the most likely destinations are Arsenal, Chelsea, and PSG, but none of them has made headway with the deal.
Two weeks ago, there were strong reports that Osimhen had agreed on personal terms with PSG, but the talks have cooled off because they have been unable to cut a deal with Napoli.
With this delay, Arsenal and Chelsea could still pounce. Meanwhile, former Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi has been a major advocate for Osimhen to move to his former club Chelsea. Last summer, Mikel stated that he was having conversations with Osimhen to try to convince him to join the Blues.
Recently, Mikel reiterated that he was still trying to coerce Osimhen into joining the Blues. But this time, he revealed that he was doing it with his former teammate Didier Drogba.
John Obi Mikel says him and Didier Drogba have both been messaging and calling Victor Osimhen about a move to Chelsea.

Chelsea would need up to €130 million to convince Napoli to sell Osimhen. But they have to make a decisive move as soon as possible because the transfer window will close at the end of August.
