The governorship candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in Ondo State, Kunle Wizeman Ajayi, has been reportedly arrested by security operatives during the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protest in Akure.
According to reports, Ajayi was taken into custody alongside another activist, Patrick Owolabi, by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force on Saturday.
The Take It Back Movement, a human rights advocacy organization, condemned the arrest in a statement, demanding the immediate and unconditional release of the duo.
The statement posted on social media platform X reads, “It’s unfortunate that the @PoliceNG is yet to learn.
“The continued clampdown on peaceful #EndBadGovernceInNigeria protesters is a total shame.
“We condemn the unlawful arrest of Ajayi Wizeman & Patrick Owolabi in Ondo state and we demand their immediate and unconditional release!”
When contacted, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odunlami Ibukun, claimed he had not been briefed on the matter.
