President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Davidson Alaribe, yesterday, solicited a strategic partnership with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to eradicate corruption and foster good governance in the country.
He highlighted ICAN’s role in the fight, proposing an intentional collaboration to enhance capacity of ICPC staff in forensic accounting and financial analysis, as well as to further strengthen the nation’s anti-corruption efforts.
The ICAN boss also lauded ICPC’s efforts in combating graft and aligning with the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC). He emphasised the importance of collaboration in promoting transparency and accountability, stating: “By combining our expertise, we can create a formidable force against corruption.”
Responding, Aliyu acknowledged the pivotal role of accountants in Nigeria’s economy. He noted the imperativeness of a robust partnership between ICPC and ICAN, given the high level of expertise.
The ICPC helmsman canvassed joint capacity building initiatives to enhance the commission’s investigative capabilities and commended ICAN’s disciplinary mechanisms for upholding professional standards, and encouraged other professional bodies to adopt similar measures.
Aliyu stressed the importance of financial crime prevention through technology and collaboration, adding: “No anti-corruption agency can defeat corruption alone.”
