Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has joined his Nottingham Forest teammates at their pre-season camp in Spain following a short spell on the sidelines due to an injury, Soccernet.ng reports.
Awoniyi has been struggling with injuries since he joined Nottingham Forest from Union Berlin two years ago. Two seasons ago, he missed 17 games due to of a groin injury. And last season, he missed 18 games because of the same issue.
The 26-year-old striker had a tough end to last season because of his injury problems, and this limited his game time in the closing embers of the campaign.
However, Awoniyi seemed to have returned to full fitness in the summer, as he shared images of himself doing training drills.
But surprisingly, he did not participate in Nottingham Forest’s first pre-season game against Chesterfield. After the game, coach Nuno Espirito Santo revealed that Awoniyi did not play due to a slight injury.
There were also reports that the former Union Berlin man was not going to be part of Nottingham Forest’s pre-season camp in Spain.
But in a new development, the Tricky Trees shared a video of Awoniyi at the club’s camp in Spain.
However, they did not reveal if he is back to full fitness. If Awoniyi is fit, he would surely take part in the club’s remaining pre-season games against Millwall, Elche, Villarreal, and Olympiacos.
Nottingham Forest will begin their Premier League campaign with a game against Bournemouth at the City Ground.
