Several Nigerian footballers were in action for their clubs across the length and breadth of Europe on Friday and Soccernet.ng brings the juiciest of the highlights.
The various league divisions in the Czech Republic kicked off at the weekend with a few Nigerians making their impact felt.
In the Czech Liga, Victor Olatunji smashed the winning goal for champions Sparta Prague as they began the defence of their crown with a 2 – 1 home win over Pardubice.
Kalabiška opened the scoring for the visitors in the 25th minute but Ryneš equalised for Sparta deep into first-half stoppage time before Olatunji netted the winner on the hour mark.
Twenty-year-old Mohammed Yahaya was an 81st-minute substitute for Pardubice but his introduction failed to inspire a late comeback.
The Estonian Meistriliiga entered its gameweek 20 and it was time for Ahmed Adebayo to steal the headlines.
The 22-year-old attacker bagged a brace to power Tammeka to a deserved 2-0 victory over Flora. It is the fifth goal in the last four games for Adebayo and his 12th overall in 18 league games this season.
Adebayo is now only two goals behind the league’s top scorers – Kalju’s Promise David (who has joined Union Saint Gilloise) and Flora’s Mark Lepik – who both have 14 goals.
In the Latvian Virsliga, Joseph Ede’s late strike was only mere consolation as his FS Jelgava were defeated 6-1 at high-flying Riga.
Ede remains the most outstanding performer for relegation-threatened FS Jelgava, with the former Táborsko star boasting ten goals in 19 league appearances.
In Malaysia, Ismahil Akinade was the hero for Terengganu as they carved out a fine 3-2 FA Cup win over Selangor.
The game was tied at two goals apiece when Akinade popped up in the 70th minute and secured a first-leg semifinal advantage for his side.
In the Serbian Super Liga, Okwuchukwu Francis Ezeh delivered a man-of-the-match display to inspire Železničar Pančevo to a thrilling 3-2 away win at Radnički Kragujevac.
Ezeh was making his debut after moving to Železničar Pančevo from Turkish side Eyüpspor on July 2nd.
And in only 58 minutes on the pitch, the 26-year-old provided two assists, including for the winning goal, as Železničar Pančevo claimed all three points in the first league match of the season.
It was a dream start for Paschal Onyekachi Durugbor in Switzerland as the 24-year-old found the net on his debut for Neuchâtel Xamax.
Durugbor, who joined Xamax from Sporting Lagos this month, scored the second goal as Xamax sealed a 3-2 win over Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy on gameweek one of the Challenge League.
