The President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has approved N70,000 as the minimum wage for Nigerian workers. At the announcement, he committed to a review of this figure every three years.
The president also promised to find ways to assist the private sector and the sub-nationals to pay the minimum wage.
The President announced this decision at the meeting held with the leaders of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the TUC today Thursday, the 18th of July 2024. This will be the second time both parties will be meeting in the last seven days.
The President also promised to use his discretionary powers to meet the demands of university unions demanding unpaid 4 months’ salaries.
