Saudi clubs and Lazio vie for one-cap Super Eagles midfielder who caught Peseiro’s eye

One-cap Super Eagles midfielder, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, has piqued the interest of Saudi Arabian clubs following a successful stint with Hatayspor, Soccernet.ng reports.

Dele-Bashiru joined Hatayspor on a free transfer last summer after opting not to extend his contract with Sheffield Wednesday. He began his Hatayspor career in remarkable form, contributing to seven goals in his first eight league matches.

Under the guidance of Jose Peseiro, this impressive performance earned him his first call-up to Nigeria’s senior national team for friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique in October.

Meanwhile, he has piqued the interest of Italian Serie A side, who could also face competition from Saudi Clubs who are vying for his signature per Turkish journalist, Ertan Suzgun.

Dele-Bashiru’s release clause

The Super Eagles midfielder who enjoyed a standout season with Hatayspor, is attracting significant interest due to his release clause. The midfielder’s contract stipulates a €7 million release fee for international clubs and a €2.5 million fee for domestic clubs.

Dele-Bashiru’s impressive performances have made him a hot prospect, especially after he registered seven goal involvements in his first eight league games, leading to his maiden call-up to Nigeria’s senior national team in October for friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.

His relatively low release fee for Turkish clubs could spark a bidding war within the Süper Lig, as well as his higher fee for foreign clubs like Lazio.

Dele-Bashiru’s international career

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru received his maiden call-up to Nigeria’s senior national team for friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique back in October.

Despite being named in Nigeria’s provisional squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the 23-year-old midfielder did not make the final cut.

Dele-Bashiru has made only one appearance for the Super Eagles, playing 61 minutes against Mozambique, a match in which Nigeria secured a 3-2 victory with Dele-Bashiru providing an assist.

He was on the bench for Nigeria’s recent international friendly matches against Mali and Ghana and hopes to make his first competitive appearance for the national team soon.
