Egungun Festival 2024 To Highlight Oyo State’s Cultural Heritage

Preparations are underway to mark the Egungun Festival, a three days event set to highlight the rich, cultural heritage of Oyo State, Nigeria.

The festival scheduled to hold July 11 to 13, 2024, at the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, will feature three symbolic heritages of the state, the Egungun masquerade, Fuji music and Amala cuisine.

A revered symbol of the state, Egungun masquerade bear historical and contemporary significance. First, for their roles in ancient battles in the kingdom, and their ceremonial part in today’s society. They represent the resilience spirit of the people, and the enduring legacy of Oyo’s traditions.

Meantime, the unique Fuji sounds and Amala delicacy of Oyo State are further combined to provide a ‘feast of the senses’ experience for participants.

Visitors will not only be privy to performances by Egungun masquerades from all 33 local government areas of Oyo, but musical performances by the popular and local Fuji artistes, while they get to determine the best Amala cuisine in the Amala Cuisine Competition for the local restauranteurs.
Egungun Festival has something for audience of ages, and promises the fostering of a sense of community and unity.

“Egungun Festival Oyo State (EFOS 2024) is not just an event, it is a celebration of our identity, our traditions, and our community. This festival serves as a vibrant showcase of our rich cultural heritage, providing a platform to honour and preserve out traditions for generations to come,” said the state Commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun.
