Days after participating in the direct governorship primary election of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State as an aspirant, Wale Akinterinwa will be a guest of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) this Thursday.
Akinterinwa is the immediate-past Commissioner for Finance in Ondo State under the administration of late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
Although, a national daily (not LEADERSHIP) had reported that Akinterinwa had visited the EFCC office following an invitation extended to him to come and explain certain transactions of Ondo State government under his stewardship running into billions of Naira, since last week and that he was subsequently detained throughout the weekend during the APC governorship primary election, the governorship aspirant, however, denied the report as he took to his X handle (formerly Twitter) on Thursday morning to announce his readiness to honour EFCC’s invite this Thursday.
Akinterinwa wrote: “Today, I will be honouring the invitation from the EFCC to shed more light on certain matters that the commission wants clarification on. I have confidence in the anti-graft agency to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that justice is done.”
LEADERSHIP recalls that until the State Executive Council (SEC) was dissolved by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who succeeded the late Governor Akeredolu, Akinterinwa served as Commissioner for over seven years.
After the death of Akeredolu in December 2023, he announced that his late principal had wanted him (Akinterinwa) to succeed him as governor in the 2024 Ondo State governorship election.
