Fans of legendary Nollywood actor John Okafor, known to the world as Mr Ibu, will have the opportunity to celebrate his life during a five-day ceremony culminating in his burial on June 28th, 2024.
The Okafor family announced the plans in a heartfelt statement, revealing that the festivities will begin on June 25th in Mr Ibu’s hometown of Eziokwe Amuri, Enugu State, Nigeria. A novelty match will kick off the events, followed by a special evening dedicated to the beloved actor on June 26th, dubbed “Mr Ibu’s Night.” This evening will feature a candlelight procession and live performances to honor his memory.
A traditional Christian Wake will be held on June 27th at the family compound, leading up to the funeral service on June 28th. The family will conclude the commemorations with a Church Thanksgiving service on June 30th, inviting friends, family, and well-wishers to join them in celebrating Mr Ibu’s remarkable life and legacy.
“The Okafor family wishes to honor the loving memory of our hero and legend, John Ikechukwu Okafor,” the statement reads. “Even in death, he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and liveliness.”
