APC aspirant suspends participation in Edo guber primary

Ahead of the September 21 governorship election in Edo state, one of the All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirants, Prof. Sylvester Akhaine, has announced the suspension of his campaign till further notice.

This decision was contained in a statement issued, yesterday, by the Director General of the Sylvester Odion Akhaine Campaign Organisation, Prof. Felix Oriakhi, and made available to The Guardian.

The statement reads: “In the last eight months, we embarked on intense consultations and meetings with key political actors and the All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwarts in Edo State ahead of the gubernatorial election scheduled for September 21, 2024.

“Our participation went beyond routine participation in the political process, which many do by various means. We were motivated by our overall assessment of the problems of Edo State, which our organisation dissected under a Seven-Point Agenda that traversed education, culture and tourism, agriculture, healthcare, infrastructure, security, and job creation. These sectoral problems were backed by corresponding solutions – hands-on and achievable.
