Super Eagles team update: Is Zaidu Sanusi fit for Nigeria’s clash against South Africa?

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are slated to play against South Africa in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi final clash

Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi has sparked worries within the Nigerian football community as Nigeria prepares for their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final showdown with South Africa, Soccernet.ng reports.

During today’s training session, witnessed by Soccernet, the Porto FC defender was notably absent from the preparations for the clash against the Southern Africans.

This absence has stirred concerns among Nigerian football faithful, raising speculation that Sanusi may miss the upcoming semi-final against South Africa.

In his potential absence, Bruno Onyemaechi is tipped to fill in at the left wing, or alternatively, Fulham defender Calvin Bassey, who performed admirably during Nigeria’s previous match against Cameroon, could step in.

While it remains uncertain whether Sanusi’s absence is due to injury or precautionary measures, as he has sat out of training sessions before games in the past and still played full minutes, his status remains unclear.

However, Jose Peseiro has consistently expressed confidence in his team, emphasising the versatility of options like Ola Aina, Onyemaechi, and Bassey to fill Sanusi’s role if necessary.

Despite the uncertainties, the Super Eagles remain resolute and determined to secure victory as they prepare for the crucial clash against South Africa.
