During a meeting held earlier today, January 25, 2024, with representatives of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and the Restaurant and Food Services Proprietor Association of Nigeria (REFSPAN), the Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, emphasized the government’s unwavering stance on the Styrofoam ban. He stated that the state government is taking steps to ensure that the ban is implemented effectively.
The commissioner announced that the state government is currently offering a moratorium to all producers and distributors of Styrofoam. The terms of the moratorium allow for the postponement of the commencement of enforcement of the ban for three weeks. However, the government will initiate full enforcement of the law after the expiration of these three weeks. He urged producers, distributors, and food businesses affected by this ban to comply with the regulations as there will be consequences for defaulters.
This announcement is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that the state remains safe and healthy for its residents.
