The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced on Thursday that the construction of the long-anticipated Fourth Mainland Bridge will begin in the first quarter of this year, likely by the end of March or April.
The announcement was made during his keynote address at the Lagos West Senatorial District Town Hall Meeting at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Sheraton, Ikeja.
Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that the bridge, a significant infrastructure project for Lagos, will be constructed in phases.
He assured that landlords and tenants of structures demolished during the construction will receive appropriate compensation.
“We’ve done extensive work on the bridge. But we are at the crossroads of where to get the real financing for that kind of project. We’ll need to be very creative,” said Sanwo-Olu.
He affirmed the government’s commitment to starting the construction within the first quarter of 2024.
